My name is Xiaolin Viola Mai and I’m a China-born, LA-based director.
I graduated from New York University in Media Culture and Communications, and French Studies, which might explain my particular interest in stories that deal with diverse experiences and various perspectives. I went on to study Film at ArtCenter of Design and realized that making art with creative people is what gets me out of bed every day.
I make moving images with a passion for blending wit and humor into my storytelling. I'm particularly fond of the elevated reality genre, where the ordinary meets the extraordinary. My inspiration comes from the pages of books, the beats of music, the magic of films, and the little quirks of everyday life.
